2025 NBA Offseason and Free Agency

With the 2024-25 season complete, the 2025 NBA Offseason is now under way

June 29
- The last day for a team to submit a qualifying offer to their own restricted free agents
- The last day a team or player can opt into or out of their team- or player-option
- End-of-day is at 6:00 PM ET

June 30 (Last day of the 2024-25 year on the books)
- Last day to sign a veteran extension from the 2024-25 season
- Teams can begin talking to free agents that are not on their own team

July 1 (First day of the 2025-26 year on the books)
- Teams can submit offer sheets to free agents not on their own team
- Restricted free agents can sign offer sheets
- Players can sign minimum contracts and two-way contracts
- Moratorium begins. Players and teams can negotiate new contracts, and teams can negotiate trades, but no deal is official within the moratorium period. Lasts from July 1 at 12:01 PM ET to July 6 at 12:00 PM ET

July 6
- Moratorium ends
- Players and teams can officially sign new contracts, and teams can officially complete their trades
- Teams have a 24-hour period to match the offer sheets that were extended to their restricted free agents

July 13
- The last day a team can withdraw a qualifying offer from a restricted free agent

August 29
- The last day a team can waive players from the roster and invoke the stretch provision, where the player's salary will be spread out and paid over twice the number of years left on their contract
